You are watching : How to save login password

Windows 10 auto login, win 10 auto login, auto login without password, directly to desktop without PW, other user , start windows 10 without password, disable windows 10 password, turn off password

As in the previous versions, it is possible to save your password under Windows 10 so that you do not have to enter the password every time you log in.

Of course, you can undo this setting at any time.

With mobile devices such as tablets and laptops, it is not advisable to take them with you on the go.

We will now show you how automatic login works under Windows 10.

Note: Windows 11 has a quirk Remove PIN for automatic login Windows 11

Also interesting:

This tutorial is suitable for Windows 10 21H1 and higher, 20H2, 2004 and 1909 and lower.

Save password to log in automatically

In order to be able to log in automatically, the (possibly) activated PIN entry under Settings -> Accounts -> Login options will be disabled.

To save the password, proceed as follows:

  • Press Windows key + R Type netplwiz and start
    • Or start menu, open the start screen and type in user accounts and start
  • In the new User Accounts window, uncheck
  • Now mark the user account and click on Apply

  • In the new window, enter the currently used password and confirm below it
  • Press OK.

That’s about it. At the next restart, no password is required when starting Windows 10.

Other user appears when logging in, then please read here: #Other user appears when logging in

Important: Before you delete the user account with this auto login, you must first undo this setting. Then delete the user account. Otherwise, a “ghost account” will appear.

Uncheck not available under user accounts netplwiz

With the Windows 10 2004 Microsoft connects the setting under:

  • Accounts -> Login Options -> “Windows Hello sign-in required for Microsoft accounts” with netplwiz (user accounts).
  • If On, netplwiz removes the ability to uncheck “Users must enter username and password”.
  • Turning it off will enable automatic login again, as described above.

The changes in the registry are:

  • Press Windows key + R, type regedit and start
  • To the path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PasswordLess\Device

  • In the right part of the window, right-click on DevicePasswordLessBuildVersion
    • Value 0 Windows Hello login is disabled
    • Value 2 Windows Hello login is enabled

Do not force enter password despite Hello login

If you’re using Windows 10 x64, you don’t necessarily have to set the “Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts” to Off. It could also be that it has a gray background.

Then you can still carry out the automatic registration. And so it goes:

  • Open File Explorer and go to path
  • C:\Windows\SysWOW64 navigate
  • Start netplwiz.exe here
  • In the user account settings, the check box “Users must enter a username and password.
  • now appears again

  • Remove the tick, enter your name and password and you’re done.

Local account without password Login button still appears

If you have created a local account without a password, the “Login” button will still appear when you log in or after the idle mode. Only when you press it do you get ahead.

Also under Settings -> Accounts -> Login options is the setting “When should Windows ask you to log in again after you’ve been away?” This setting is grayed out and cannot be changed.

To deactivate this button when logging in and to get to the desktop immediately, proceed as follows:

  • Settings -> Accounts -> On the left then login options
  • Press Add under Password and assign a password It doesn’t matter which one. You should just remember it.
  • Then, in the same window, set “Login required” to Never
  • Once done, go back to Password Change Account Password
    • Enter the password you just assigned, leave the new password blank and save

That’s about it. Now no “Login button” is displayed when logging in and Windows 10 starts immediately through to the desktop.

Disable password after standby and hibernation

Starting with Windows 10 1607, Microsoft has moved this setting.

This is now located under:

  • Setting -> Accounts -> On the left then login options
  • When should Windows ask you to log in again after you’ve been away?
    • Never
    • End the battery saver mode on this PC

User is shown twice in the login

If two identical users appear under the user accounts after the automatic login in the login screen but only one user account is still displayed, then Windows 10 has saved something incorrectly.

To fix this, do the following:

  • Press Windows key + R type netplwiz and start
  • Check “Users must enter username and password” again
  • Restart
  • Call up netplwiz again and now remove the tick again, enter the password twice and then the error in the login screen should be fixed.

User accounts user selection window is empty

No more users are displayed in the user account selection list.

Nevertheless, you can still log in automatically after a restart or normal start without having to enter your password.

And this is how it works:

  • Windows key + R type netplwiz and start
  • Even if no user is displayed:
  • Uncheck Users must enter a username and password
    • .
  • Now the Apply button is no longer grayed out (unclickable).
  • Press Apply
  • Enter your name and password in the following window and confirm the password. Press OK.

That’s about it. Now the computer starts without a password, even if no user is displayed in the window.

Registration button is still displayed

If you have only set up an account on the PC and set the password to log in automatically, the PC will also start immediately without having to enter a password or press the Login button.

If you have created several users, it becomes more difficult:

  • User 1 = automatic login User 2 = with password input
    • User 1 sees the login button but does not need to enter a password. User 2 must still enter his password.

If you don’t want to also press the “Login” button after the start, then you only have to use the automatic password entry for user 2 as well.

So then both accounts start without the login button and without a password.

Save password from Microsoft account to automatically log in

The input works here too. Simply select the account as described above and enter the password from the Microsoft account.

Then remove the check mark and the user account will start with a Microsoft account without having to enter a password.

Use Autologon for automatic login

Von Mark Russinovich’s little Autologon tool makes it easy to save the login password.

Info and Download: Autologon for Windows

Note: If you have activated automatic login and delete the user account, it can happen that a “ghost account” appears in the login afterwards. This must then be removed using these instructions #Other user appears at login

With Windows 10 from 1607, Microsoft has activated a function so that you do not have to enter the password after a restart after an update or upgrade. The password is temporarily saved for this one restart. So you can continue working immediately after restarting the update.

And this is how it works:

  • Start Menu -> Settings or just press Windows key + i
  • Update and Security -> WindowsUpdate
  • Here are the advanced options
  • Check the box: “The setup of my device should be completed automatically after the update with my credentials.”

Starting with Windows 10 1809 this setting is under:

  • Settings -> Accounts -> to find credentials
  • Use my credentials to set device setup…. to On.

On the next patch day and a necessary restart, it is no longer necessary to enter your password to continue working with Windows 10.

The variant via the command prompt:

  • Type command prompt or cmd.exe in the taskbar search and right-click “As Administrator” or while holding Ctrl + Start Shift.
REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /v ARSOUserConsent /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001 /f
  • Copy in and press Enter.

That’s about it.

After the next update with a restart, Windows 10 will start right away.

You can also use:

  • Windows key + R type regedit and start
  • Go to the path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
  • Right click New Create a new DWORD value (32 bit) named ARSOUserConsent.
  • Double click on this and set the value to 1.

Re-enter password when starting Windows 10

If you want to enter the password every time you start Windows 10, it is sufficient:

  • Press Windows key + R Type netplwiz and start
    • Or start menu, open the start screen and type in user accounts and start
  • Select the user account and tick Users must enter username and password.

After a reboot, it is reported: The password is incorrect

If, after entering the password for automatic login, an error message appears when logging in “The password is incorrect”, then 2 users will appear on the left-hand side.

If you have a Microsoft account, click on the user with the email address and start.

Then start netplwiz again via Windows key + R and:

  • Check and uncheck Users must enter username and password.
  • Enter the password again and confirm.

After that, it should also work with the login without a password under Windows 10.

Other user appears at login

If other users appear when logging in after switching to auto-login, you only need to correct one entry in the registry. This can also happen if you have activated automatic login and delete the user account in question.

  • Press Windows key + R, type regedit and start it
    • Or type regedit in the taskbar search and start
  • Go to the path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.
  • On the right then DefaultUserName enter the correct name.

If you are unsure which name to enter, either use the name under LastUsedUsername or press Win + R type netplwiz and start it and takes the username from there.

If you are unable to make the changes because other users are displayed, you have to start Safe Mode via the login window at the bottom right and make the changes from there.

Build In Administrator always starts first

If you have created one or more users and also activated the Build-In Administrator, it can happen that the activated administrator always starts and not the last logged in user.

But the problem can also be solved.

  • Press Windows key + R, type regedit and start
  • Go to the path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
  • Now double-click AutoAdminLogon in the right field and set the value to 0.

If you are using the normal user, then restart now.

If you are still using the Build-In Administrator, log out of the start menu and log in with the normal user.

Now the normal user should also start automatically.

PC locked password is still required

Only up to Windows 10 1607

Microsoft has only released this function for Windows 10 Education and Enterprise.

Should this also be possible in another way, we will update the tutorial.

If you also want to turn off the lock screen completely: Disable lock screen enable Windows 10

Archive 1511 +

Only up to Windows 10 1511

Here you have to go to the energy options

  • In the Start menu or Start screen, type power options and start
  • Click in the left tree
  • Check Password is not required

That’s about it. Now it will not ask for a password after the locked screen.

Steps to Save Website Usernames and Passwords in Safari on iPhone or iPad: 0:45

    Video Transcript:
In 2017, Apple introduced the ability for iPhone and iPad users to store website usernames and passwords in iCloud Keychain. This means that when a website username and password is saved in iCloud Keychain, that information will auto-populate for you when you go to enter it on a website in Safari. Additionally, this information will also auto-populate in Safari on any other Apple devices associated with your Apple ID.

Now let’s walk through the steps to save usernames and passwords in Safari on your iPhone or iPad.

    1. Open “Safari” on your Apple device, and then navigate to the website you want to store the username and password for.

    2. Navigate to the login page for that website.

    3. Enter the username and password when prompted. Upon attempting to log in, a menu flys up from the bottom of the screen, asking if you want to save the password for this site.

    4. Choose “Save Password.” You’ll be routed to the site you were logging in to, and your username and password information for this site will be saved to your device. As a result, the next time you navigate to this site on this device and tap in the field to enter your username, you’ll see a prompt directly above the keyboard to use the username and password you have stored for that website. You can tap that prompt to auto-populate your username and password information.
